Anything for a cancer cure, right? If you had told me yesterday that I would run in the snow, I would have called you foolish. Well, it looks like I’m the fool now. The weather can never be too awful to not run for a cancer cure. This morning I ran the Nike+ Women’s Half

Shorty and I entered in another 5K race. This time Shorty ran with Flashy, her pom-chi friend, and Leeza, the Puerto Rican dachsund. The rain didn’t stop the dogs from pulling throughout the course and sprinting across the finish line. Shorty wore her one of a kind “Go Team” doggie rain coat. Lined with purple

A couple of years ago, David “Grouch-O” Acosta, my friend and co-worker was diagnosed with lung cancer. Cancer had snuck up on him, and disguised itself as asthma symptoms. At the time, my friend was a few months short of receiving health insurance coverage and did not seek immediate medical attention. His symptoms worsened and by the time he went to the ER, the doctors discovered he had stage IV cancer. The few times I visited him at the hospital, Grouch-o, as we had nicknamed him, smiled. He kept his head up high and at 26 years of age, this young man never lost hope.

Find out how your 100% tax-deductible donation to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society will help a cancer patient’s life.
Grants to young scientists. Your money helps grow research talent even as federal research funding becomes increasingly limited.
By hitting specific molecular targets, these treatments don’t harm patients’ healthy cells, resulting in fewer dangerous side effects.
Immunotherapies strengthen a patient’s own immune system. This helps a patient fight infections and attack cancer cells, reducing the need for damaging chemotherapy.
LLS funds research to predict, manage and prevent complications in patients most at risk for long-term and late effects of treatment.
LLS supplies information and counseling to help guide patients through their cancer journey. LLS also provides access to current treatment and clinical trial options.
A cancer diagnosis is hard enough without having to deal with its financial burden. We provide programs to help relieve the economic strain of a blood cancer diagnosis.
Among the wide array of programs LLS provides are those that link newly diagnosed patients with trained volunteers. This helps young cancer patients return to school after an absence resulting from treatment.
With your help, LLS brings to the attention of lawmakers the urgent need for increased government funding and support of research and patient access to affordable treatment and quality care.
Facts from Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
Donations are paramount to finding a cure for blood cancers. Your donations will help the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society reach its goal of providing a better quality of life for patients and putting us one step closer in the eradication of this disease.
Please make a 100% tax deductible donation today. Any amount will help LLS. Whether it is $5 or $100, your contribution helps.

Saturday Morning I joined the Summer Team as a mentor to kick-off the season! The Summer Team has over 100 registrants starting their journeys to run in San Diego and even Seattle.
As a mentor, I will be helping my mentees fundraise for their races and I will become their personal cheerleaders. Fundraising can be quite daunting at first, but it gets to a point where passion for a cure overcomes all obstacles.
As a runner, I know how difficult it can be to stay disciplined during the training. I also know that there are friends, brothers, sisters, mothers, and fathers suffering from cancer, and do not even have the opportunity to get up to go for a run. Staying disciplined for the next couple of months cannot compare to the pain and suffering a cancer patient undergoes.
Completing a race will not eradicate cancer, but for every dollar I can raise along the way, will go towards the mission of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I’m proud to once again be a member of Team In Training and I really look forward to meeting dedicated members that run for a cure.
